Secure FTP

Transferring files to and from the TRWIN shares with secure FTP

The TRWINDATA volumes can be accessed using a FTP client.

Connection with the TRIUMF VPN is required.

This FTP service provides connection to four volumes on the TRWINDATA server.

  • Groups  --> \\trwindata.triumf.ca\groups
  • Home1**  --> \\trwindata.triumf.ca\users
  • Home2**  --> \\trwindata.triumf.ca\users2
  • Home3**  --> \\trwindata.triumf.ca\users3
  • Scratch  --> \\trwindata.triumf.ca\scratch

** There are 3 home folder locations on trwindata. You can either browse to the folder as:

/home1/Username ,  /home2/Username,  /home3/Username

Example: /home1/bob, /home2/bob, /home3/bob

OR contact us if you are not sure where your home folder location is.

To connect to the FTP server:

Download and install a FTP client that supports FTP over TLS, for example CoffeeCup Free FTP

***  NOTE: We have stopped recommending Filezilla.

Connecting to the TRWIN file repository using a FTP client

  1. Launch FTP client
  2. Create a New Site and name it TRWINREMOTE
  3. Enter the required parameters for the new site.
      • Host: trwinremote.triumf.ca
      • Port: 21
      • Protocol: FTP – File Transfer Protocol
      • Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS
      • Logon Type: Ask for password
      • User: provide the trwin account in the form of “trwin\[username]”
      • All other settings can be left as default values.

The first time you connect, you may be prompted by a certificate message “Unknown Certificate". Place a check in the “Trust this certificate…” box.

You should now be able to transfer files.
