File Access on TRWIN

TRWINDATA server is the main Windows file repository for all the domain users within TRIUMF. Files on TRWINDATA  are securely stored and being backed up regularly. Files in the repository are generally accessible through the Windows map drive method. However, we do provide alternative ways to access the files both on-site and off-site.

Map Drive Descriptions

  • M: aka group folder (\\trwindata\groups) ---- The group folder provides access to individual group, department and project folder. Each folder in M: is assigned with   special permission and only authorized users can access it.
  • H: aka home\personal folder (\\trwindata\users and \\trwindata2\users$) ---- Each TRWIN domain user is assigned with a home folder. Users can store any personal (work related) files in there.
  • S: aka scratch folder (\\trwindata\scratch) ---- The Scratch folder is a temporary storage area. Any users have read\write permission to it. Please use it for non-critical files as temporary storage. The scratch is not being back up and it is unsecure due to the permission settings.
  • N: aka apps folder (\\trwindata\apps) ---- The apps folder stores application installation files commonly used at TRIUMF

Client Access Methods

  • Map Drive - When user logon to the domain, all the above network drives will be mapped automatically on their computers. Users will have access to the folder based on their permissions. If for some reason you are unable to logon to the domain, you can manually map the drives using the UNC paths (inside the brackets) mentioned above. Please note method of access is only available within TRIUMF.
  • Web Folder
  • FTP
