Laptop Backup
TRIUMF Core Computing and Networking now supports a backup solution for Windows and Mac laptop computers. It is based on Atempo Live Backup. With this product, a laptop is automatically and continuously backed up. Files are sent over a secure connection to a TRIUMF server whenever the laptop has an Internet connection.
Overview
The backup software continuously monitors the laptop and backs up files as they are created and saved. Changes to files are first copied to a special area on the laptop's hard disk, and then sent to the server as network connectivity allows. This process is completely automatic and ensures that recovered files are as recent as the last save. End users have the ability to restore any files and folders without assistance from IT staff. Previous versions of document files can be recovered, providing protection from accidental overwrites or modifications.

What is backed up
Live Backup uses profiles to determine which files are protected. We have default profiles for Windows and Mac but can also accommodate an individuals' backup need by customizing their profiles. Please contact us if you have this requirement.
Default backup profiles:
Windows:
- Any files under the My Documents folder, this includes all users' My Documents folders within the same computer.
- Any Microsoft Office Documents, Audio/Video Files, Graphics Files, Application Development Files, Compressed Files and Text Documents within the file system.
Mac:
- Any files in the /Users folders within the file system with these exceptions, FDD, HDD, ISO, DMG, PVS, VMDK, VMEM, /Users/*/Library/Caches
